Málfríður, the Book Chair, was designed and fabricated in 2013 for my solo exhibition at Borgarbókasafnið in Reykjavík during DesignMarch Iceland. The piece functions as both a reading seat and a sculptural object within a library context.
I personally fabricated the chair in steel, developing it for durability and continuous public use. In the summer of 2013, it was also included in the exhibition The Art of Being Icelandic at Reykjavík City Hall.
Following the exhibition, Málfríður remained on display at the library, inviting visitors to sit, read, and interact with the work. After a decade of daily use, the chair was retired in 2023, a testament not to fragility but to sustained engagement and everyday interaction.
