Table.png
Table.png explores the tension between perceived and actual material properties. A thick, solid wooden tabletop appears to bend as if soft and elastic, despite wood being dense and structurally rigid. A precisely formed steel frame surrounds and restrains it, reinforcing the contrast between wood as warm and substantial and steel as hard and industrial. The visual compression challenges our instinctive understanding of how these materials should behave.
The grey and white checkered pattern, commonly used in digital editing software to indicate transparency in PNG images, is embedded directly into the surface of the table. What typically represents absence or background becomes a physical and deliberate part of the object.
By translating a digital visual language into furniture, the project reflects on contemporary consumer culture. As shopping increasingly happens online, objects are encountered first as images rather than physical experiences. Products can appear detached from context, edited or misleading. Table.png plays with this uncertainty, questioning how expectation is constructed and how reality can differ from what is presented on a screen.
